Villa in shock move for Almunia

Aston Villa are preparing a shock move to bring Arsenal goalkeeper Manuel Almunia to Villa Park, according to the Daily Mirror.
The managerless club are preparing life without goalkeeper Brad Friedel, who is linked with a move to Fulham as a replacement for Arsenal bound Mark Schwarzer.
Villa are believed to have pin-pointed Almunia as a replacement for Friedel despite the Spaniard making a number of high profile clangers for the Gunners last season.
The 33-year-old has appeared to have fallen down the pecking orders at the Emirates as Arsene Wenger has chosen to start Lukasz Fabianski in four of Arsenal's six pre-season games.
A fresh challenge could be what Almunia need and Villa are prepared to hand him a chance to revive his career.
Meanwhile, the Midlands club are expected to name their new manager before the Premier League game against Newcastle on 22 August and a deal for Almunia could be finalized next week.
